National Entrance Examination for Design (NEED) 2013

The Institute offers Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) in its Heritage Campus, Ahmedabad.

Number of Seats:

GDPD Graduate Diploma Program in Design 90 seats (including OBC & Other reserved categories)

4-year GDPD Program (includes a Foundation year) is offered in the following disciplines:

    * Product Design
    * Furniture & Interior Design
    * Ceramic & Glass Design (Under the Faculty of Industrial Design)
    * Graphic Design
    * Animation Film Design
    * Film & Video Communication
    * Exhibition (Spatial) Design (Under the Faculty of Communication Design)
    * Textile Design (Under the Faculty of Textile, Apparel and Lifestyle Design)

NEED 2013 Eligibility Details:

Candidates who have passed or who will appear qualifying examinations under Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/IB / ICSE, etc are eligible for NEED.

Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relax able by 3 years for reserved categories).

Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary(10+2), or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ICSE etc.

Candidates passing the Institute's admission tests/interviews will be admitted, subject to passing their qualifying examinations before they join the Institute.

Competence in technical and related subjects will normally be considered an advantage. The medium of instruction for UG Program at NID is English.

NEED 2013 Application Form

Application forms along with the prospectus for the ensuing academic year will be made available on request from the second week of October on payment of Rs.1500/- (Rs.750/- for reserved categories) by a Demand Draft of any nationalized bank drawn in favor of the 'National Institute of Design' payable at Ahmedabad.

Forms downloaded from NID's website www.nid.edu along with required amount of DD drawn in favor of National Institute of Design payable at Ahmedabad will also be accepted.

Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India (listed below) on payment of Rs 1500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs 30/- as bank charges. (Forms at confessional rates to reserved categories are available only from NID, Ahmedabad.) (NID reserves its right to cancel any of these centres).

Admission is on the basis of NID's method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications.

The NID Admission Committee systematically seeksevidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement andmotivation essential for a challenging and satisfying design career.

The objective of the tests and the interviews is to ascertain the above qualities. The tests at the various centers will consist of design aptitude tests.

Based on scores obtained from these tests, short listing of candidates to be called for second phase will be done.

The second phase of the admission procedure will consist of studio tests followed by personal interviews at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar.

All those candidates called for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which completes the process of selection. The Admission Committee decides the procedures, grades and weight age every year.

The norms for the selection are the sole prerogative of the Admission Committee and the decision of the Admission Committee and the Management in any of the matters concerning the admission process and selection will be final.

Any direct or indirect attempt to in fluency the admission committee or its members, academic office bearers or management will lead to the automatic disqualification of the candidate(s).

NEED 2013 Exam Centers

All candidates fulfilling the requirements of minimum qualification and within the prescribed age limit will be called for the Entrance Test (NEED) to be conducted at 12 centers:

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbaiand Oman.

Prescribed percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various reserved categories scheduled as per the norms of the Government of India. The OBC reservation is in effecting stages and the new academic year envisages the second stage of reservation.
