Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Bachelor Programs - Design
B.Design (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)
The
+2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any
recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as
Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian
School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.or
General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. or
Any Public School/Board/University
Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognised by the
Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.or
A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.or
3 or 4-years diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
Please note that the upper age limit for applying in bachelor Programs is restricted to 23 years as on 1st November, 2008.
Eligibility for Bachelor Program - Technology
B.F Tech. (Apparel Production)
The
+2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any
recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as
Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian
School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry
and Maths.or
General Certificate
Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the
advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.or
Any
Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign
countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as
equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.or
A
pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the
National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics,
Chemistry and Maths.or
3 or 4-years diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education (Engineering background).
- Candidate must be pass in Physics, Chemistry & Maths.

Eligibility for Master Program - Management
M.F.M. (Master of Fashion Management)
For
foreign Bachelor's Degree, not recognised by the Association of Indian
Universities, proper certification by a National Body constituted in
the country concerned for granting equivalence will have to be produced.
Eligibility for Master Program - Technology
M.F Tech. (Master of Fashion Technology)
Eligibility for Master Program - Desing
M.Des. (Master of Design)
- Graduation Degree from a recognised University in any discipline or
- Bachelor
in Applied Arts (Fashion Design/ Visual Communication/ Graphic Design/
Industrial Design/ Interor Design/ Multimedia Design/ Product Design/
Textiles & Accessories)or
- B.A. (Fine Arts) or B.Sc. (Textiles & Clothing)or
- B.Arch.or
- Design Diploma/ Degree from Nift/NID only.
Candidates having relevant industry experience in areas of Fashion/ Textile/ Communication Design would be preferred.
If
a candidate possessing Graduation Degree in any discipline applies for
the course, then he/she has to compulsory undergo 2 months (i.e. 8
weeks) training Program to develop the desired skills before taking on
the course it self.
Important Note
Candidates
appearing for their qualifying examinations can also apply. Their
admission, however, will be provisional and subject to obtaining the
defined eligibility by 30th June, 2009.
Proof
of the candidates having successfully passed the qualifying examination
will have to be produced at the time of joining the Program. in case,
candidates do not produce the required documents by 30th June, 2009,
their admission will be cancelled and 50% of the tuition fee will be
refunded.
Non fulfilment of the above conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
NIFT 2009 Exam Centres
All eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination at the Examination Centres opted by them.
The
written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill
and aptitude of the candidates for the programme opted.
The
objective type tests are subject to negative marking. The negative
marking will apply at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer.
The
written entrance examination will be conducted on 08 February, 2009.
The candidate has to select only ONE city for the examination.
Please note that Nift reserves the right to cancel any of the
Examination Centres mentioned. In such case, alternate centre which is
administratively convenient will be allotted.
Reservation of Seats
The
seats reserved for SC / ST / Physically Handicapped Candidates (PHP) /
Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI, in each programme are as under:
The qualifying candidates need to meet the eligibility and admission requirements of NIFT.
Requirements of each category are as follows:
SC/ST CANDIDATES
Candidates
applying under this reserved quota would have to produce a Caste/Tribe
certificate from the Competent Authorities of the respective
States/Union Territories/National Commission of Tribes.
OBC CANDIDATES
Candidates
applying under this quota would have to produce a caste certificate
from the Competent Authorities of the respective States/Union
Territories alongwith a certificate that they do not belong to the
creamy layer.
PHP CANDIDATES
Candidates
seeking admission under physically handicapped quota must produce a
Disability Certificate issued by the Medical Board attached with the
Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) working under the Ministry of
Labour, Govt. of India, certifying their disability as 40% or more.
NIFT
reserves the right to disqualify the candidature in case of inability
of the candidate to perform for a particular programme.
FOREIGN NATIONALS / SAARC / NRI
Fifteen
percent (15%) of total seats on supernumerary basis in each discipline
are reserved for admission of Foreign Nationals whether residing in
India or abroad, applicants from SAARC countries and Non Resident
Indian as specified in the Income Tax Act, 1961. The admission to NIFT
programmes for foreign nationals / SAARC / NRI candidates will be based
only on the written examination. The written examination of the
candidates applying under this category is normally conducted in the
premises of the Indian Embassy / Mission of the respective country.
The
candidates selected under this quota will be required to pay Rs.
3,60,000/- as Fee for each academic year consisting of two semesters
and would need to obtain a valid residential permit or student visa for
the prescribed duration of the programme.
