Designation Technical Support Specialist (RDBMS)
Job Description The position of Technical Support Database is responsible for assisting customers and other employees through the maintenance, monitoring, installation, configuration, deployment, and use of EnterpriseDB range of products. As part of a globally dispersed team, this person will report remotely and must be a self starter.
As part of a growing team with a 24 x 7 environment, commitment to team, schedule and flexibility of work hours including nights, weekends and Holidays is required.
The candidate will receive work through various ticket queues, email, phone calls and monitoring tasks. The candidate must be able to troubleshoot any outages or issues, be able to understand customer architectures and implement solutions in the most efficient manner (according to the customer's needs). Occasionally, the task will require escalation to, coordination with, or dispatch to other employees in all cases, the candidate will own the issue to conclusion.
The position involves providing Database Support and Administration of client's databases and handling of offshore database support team. Candidate would require handling complex production issues, performing technical troubleshooting and performing Root cause analysis in an efficient manner. Candidate would be involved in Remote database administration and to provide solutions to customers
Candidate should have had exposure to:
oinstallation, upgrade, patch and maintenance of different Databases
oDatabase Capacity planning, Tuning (SQL / Database), Database replication. Backup and restoration management for databases.
oDatabase migration, optimization
oHandling various database performance issues. Data modeling (Forward engineering / changing the physical attributes).
oPerformance tuning, OS configuration experience- Windows 2003, Linux Redhat/SUSE, and /or HP-UX 11.x.Ability to quickly develop hardware and software
oSQL Tuning, handle after hours dev/test issues, add space to table spaces , grant privileges on objects, run simple ddl.
oComfortable with PL/SQL and Query Tuning
oAdministration tasks when needed (proper indexing, query optimizations / hints, explain plans, partitioning, archiving, automated maintenance scripts/jobs, etc.)
oExpertise in backup and recovery and ability to maintain high availability for mission critical databases.
oScripting using UNIX shell programming languages would be an added advantage.
Desired Profile Candidate should have 2-4 years of experience and have the following skills:
oB.E. in Comp Sc. from reputed colleges / universities will be preferred.
oStrong programming skills with hands-on experience with one or more of C, C++, Java, .NET
oStrong database concepts
oHands-on experience with one or more of Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, DB2; preferably Oracle
oGood knowledge and experience with various operating systems e.g. Solaris, Linux, Windows 2000, Windows XP etc.
oGood communication skills; both written and verbal.
oExperience with 24x7 operational database
oPlanning, leading & implementing the installation, configuration & integration of the RDBMS Software
oAdvanced knowledge of PL/SQL
oDisaster recovery experience
oKnowledge of database design
oTo be able to support other development teams on database issues
oComfortable dealing directly with clients
oExcellent troubleshooting skills
oPossesses strong decision-making and task follow-through skills
oTechnical documentation skills
Having experience with one or more of the below would be a plus:
