Making your fundamentals right, because this exam basically tests the candidate on his/her fundamentals, is the first step which initializes procedure for the preparation of GATE. The questions in the paper mainly based on your basic concepts i.e. they are generally derived from the fundamentals. Overall preparation for GATE is divided into two stages, as it is an ongoing process. First of all make yourself very confident regarding your fundamentals. You can do this by testing yourself on those fundamentals. After doing this give mock test, this would help you in getting your percentile which actually gives the answer of the question " where you stand amongst competitors?" Another point that is to be considered is, which coaching institute to be joined. It's quite a difficult thing to decide, so it's better if one go with the words of those seniors who are preparing for GATE. Here are some points that must beconsidered while joining any coaching institute The type of study material provided: Study material should be such that it increases the interest as well as enjoyment of the appearing candidate otherwise it's of no use. Also refer the standard books of each subject this will definitely going to make your study enjoyable during preparation. Library collection: Good books are required during the process of theory conceptualization and building application capabilities. For this library is the first thing that comes to our mind, so just check out the library. Flexibility: It may happen that a candidate is either too fast or too slow. Just find out "In order to overcome such a problem is there any mechanism provided by the institute so as to minimize the wastage of time" Quality of questions: It does not matter that how many questions you are doing. What matters is the quality of questions. Its better if you solve only 10 questions but that to the conceptual ones. Tests and evaluation model: Is that institute is providing you the right feedback. By the word right we mean is the feedback helps you in identifying your weak areas. Take this thing seriously because it's the most crucial part of the preparation. Lastly the only thing is to choose your correct assistance and make your GATE journey enjoyable and interesting. REMEMBER: Don't forget to solve previous years' GATE papers, it will not only give you the idea about the actual paper but also brush up your basics. Solve as many test papers as possible. Keep on analyzing yourself and try to maintain a topic wise datasheet, which lists your performance topic wise for different test papers. Try to simulate the actual classroom environment.
