The Institute was inaugurated in 1963 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Hon?ble Prime Minister of India. Advanced Training Institute is a field unit of Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India. Advanced Vocational Training System (AVTS) was implemented by Govt.of India in 1978 jointly in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) to meet the training needs of the industries in the context of fast changing technology.
