The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Ranchi was founded by the eminent philanthrophist and industrialist, late Shri B.M.Birla as a part of the lifelong commitment towards building a technologically advanced and industrially strong India. It was established in 1955 as a pioneering institution of technical education and research. The achievements of the institute, both in terms of research and high standards of academic programs, led to its attainment the status of Deemed University in 1986 under section 3 of the U.G.C Act of the Govt. Of India. In 50 years of its existence, over 15,000 Degree holders in engineering and technology and over 2,000 post-graduates with various specialization in Engineering, Pharmacy, Applied Sciences, Bio-medical Instrumentation and Management disciplines have graduated from the institute.
