he DAV College, Jalandhar, Punjab was established in 1918 as part of a movement for providing quality nationalist education. Besides this college, the Management runs more than 600 educational institutions all over India. It is affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and is a grant-in-aid institution. The college was given UGC recognition under 2f in 1956.
The College has twenty departments, six under the Faculty of Science, ten under the Faculty of Arts, two under the Faculty of Commerce and two not covered under the above faculties. Undergraduate programmes are offered by eight departments and postgraudate programme by twelve. The number of students enrolled in UG courses is 2749(excluding senior secondary students) and in PG courses,531. Out of the 243 members of the teaching staff almost fifty percent possess M.Phil./Ph.D. qualifications. The number of part time teachers is few. The examination results of the College are very good and a large number of university ranks are obtained by the students of the college. During the academic session 1999-2000 the college had 219 working days and 178 teaching days.
The college has a vast campus with an area of 25,03,394 sq.ft. There is a central library with a collection of 1,21,663 books and facilities like reprography, audio and video cassettes and internet are open for use from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. six days a week..
