This college was started by the Travancore Devaswom Board in June 1964. The inspiration behind establishing this college was the late Sri.Kumbalathu Sanku Pillai.
Upgraded into a First Grade College in 1967, the college now provides Degree courses in 14 disciplines and Post Graduate courses in five. The present strength of students is about 4000, the strength of teaching staff 144, and that of non-teaching staff is 79.
