The university is run by Tmt.Kannammal Educational Trust. Deemed University status has been granted to two colleges in the name and style of Dr.MGR EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE (Deemed University) , Chennai, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission, Government of India.
