The establishment of " Easwari Engineering College for Women" during the Academic Year 1996-97 heralded a bold step towards "Women's Empowerment" in the State Capital Chennai. The focus for providing Engineering Education for Women stems from considerations that women compete and excel very well both academically and professionally in Computer Science and Engineering and in IT related areas. This was a pioneering effort in the field of Technical Education in Tamil Nadu. The College has been named after Madam Easwari Pachamuthu, wife of the Founder Chairman. Easwari Engineering College thus acquires the status being the only Engineering College for Women affiliated to the University of Madras and the only Engineering College for Women in Chennai. The College was originally affiliated to the University of Madras . Pursuant to the Government decision on Technical Education, Anna University had taken over reigns of all Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu in December 2001. As of now, the College is affiliated to Anna University .
