The need for more colleges and the sad plight of students who aspired in vain for higher education had been agitating the minds of many educationists. Members of the Majlis-ul-Ulama, Thiruchirappalli, India who shared the anxiety, N.M.Khajamian Rowther, a leading business magnate, philanthropist and nationalist of this place suggested that the Majlis-ul-Ulama buildings with their extensive grounds might well be used for establishing a first grade College. The late Janab Haji M.Jamal Mohamed Sahib, a leading business magnate, philanthropist and nationlist of frame and the President of the Majlis-ul-Ulama welcomed the idea with enthusiasm and was most keen to see it materialise.
In 1950, the Majlis-ul-Ulama finally decided to establish a first grade College, and a committee was formed to work for its inception. Further, it donated the entire buildings and the vast extension lands to the proposed College.
