NITK is a Deemed University since 2003 was formerly Karnataka Regional Engineering College(KREC), one among the 17 Regional Engineering College established in the country by the Govt. of India. It was establishedin the year 1960, in a town called Surathkal 20km. from Mangalore city, adjacent to theNational Highway No 17. Since its inception in 1960, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal has established itself as a premier Institution engaged in imparting quality technological education and providing support to research and development activities.
