Nowrosjee Wadia College, the flagship of the Modern Education Society, from its inception in the year 1932, has been one of the premier, respected educational Institutions, not only in Pune, but also in Maharashtra for the last seventy years. The College was initially affiliated to the University of Bombay and was then affiliated to the University of Pune in 1949, upon the establishment of the latter.
The strength of the College steadily increased from about 300 in 1932 to about 3000 in 1982 and to over 6000 in the year 2003. The excellent educational facilities available at the College, namely the sound infrastructure and experienced and qualified staff members of the College, draw students not only from different parts of the country, but also from abroad.
The College owes immensely to the Wadia Family for their munificence, especially the Wadia brothers Sir Cusrow Wadia and Sir Ness Wadia, who donated generously in the name of their father Nowrosjee Wadia. The College also owes a lot to Prin. V. K. Joag and other founder members of the Modern Education Society. It is their vision and perseverance, which has taken the College on the path of success.
It is needless to say that the name and fame of the College is because of their dynamic leadership. Our College has been indeed fortunate to have illustrious personalities of academic excellence and administrative capabilities as Principals, like Prin. K. M. Khadye, Prin. V. K. Joag, Prin. N. G. Suru, Prin. P.R. Damle, Prin. Choksey, Prin. Dr. S. G. Mudgal and Prin. A. M. Suru.
Teachers of equally high caliber and repute, whose contribution to the field of knowledge has been universally acclaimed, ably supported the leadership.
Prin. H. D. Moogat was a popular teacher of Mathematics. The late Dr. (Mrs.) Leela Bapat had the unique honor of being conferred the D.Sc. degree by the University of Pune.
