The dreams of its founding fathers took shape, in 1984, in the form of Shanmugha College of Engineering, which is now renamed as Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA). It has carved a niche for itself as a centre for fostering and developing the body, mind and spirit of its students. We, at SASTRA, are totally committed to this three - fold flowering of the students entrusted to our care. Our blend of academic excellence and real world experience with moral values has earned us national recognition.
Spread over a sprawling 168 acres with a built up area of over one million square feet the campus has a vibrant population of over 5000 students from across the country.
SASTRA offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering, Science, Management and Arts besides various Doctoral programmes. With its state-of-the-art laboratories, a well stocked library, one of the best computing infrastructure and an attractive teacher taught ratio, SASTRA strives for academic excellence through personalized attention. The mechanisms established to support and monitor the students' progress assure success and satisfaction. A School of Education and a School of Law are being established to cater to two vital societal requirements.
Since its inception, SASTRA has achieved national standing in terms of academic performance, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and also in its growth and its commitment to social service. The standard of excellence of our courses is reflected in the high grades awarded to us by the National Board of Accreditation, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and in the success of our students in both industry and academia.
SASTRA shapes its students' future by fostering a team work approach to instruction, encouraging interaction with faculty, providing access to high-tech information, motivating them to develop new ideas and concepts, taking personal interest in students' career development and preparing them for success.
Building professional contacts at a personal level, students are well supported by the Training and Placement Department, which offers them a continuous and progressive training that hones their personal, social, interpersonal and professional skills from their first year. Professional and specialized training is imparted for group discussions, interviews and competitive examinations. Campus interviews are coordinated and students are guided to plan their career. Counseling is provided to students to face interviews and to make informed choices both academic and professional, from among various options available to them.
SASTRA has an ethos of its own, different from others. At a time when altruistic ideals and civic interests seem to have given way to power goals and heightened interest in materialism, SASTRA presents a holistic approach to personal and professional growth. We have a moral instructor in the grade of a lecturer who imparts moral education to all students.
We mould our students in such a way that their endeavors and interests transcend traditional boundaries. They do not seek to maintain status quo, nor settle for observing change; they rather hope to be powerful instruments of change using their dynamic verve to make their contributions to the world.
To impart Value based higher education training out good engineers, scientists & researchers who are at the same time good individuals and good citizens in order that they may become useful members of an enlightened humane society.
