St.Joseph's College of Education for Women, Guntur was founded by the Society of JMJ in 1946. It is a minority institution, established and managed by the Society of JMJ, a Catholic organization, solely for the training of young Christian women graduates and post-graduates for the teaching profession. However during the past 57 years it has been admitting students of all denominations irrespective of caste, creed or religion. The College is one of the Premier Teacher Education Institutions in the State of Andhra Pradesh, India. It was started in 1946 with 12 students on its rolls. It grew from strength to strength sometimes with 300 students (1983-1985) and today has 187 B. Ed. Students. The M.Ed section that was started in 1988 presently has 30 students. The College was accredited by NAAC with B++ grade.
