Zee News reported that SAIL plans to recruit about 600 employees thisfiscal even as global producers like ArcelorMittal and Corus aretrimming workforce and salaries to stay afloat amid the economicdownturn.
The fresher, to be roped in as management trainees (technical andadministrative), would handle the extended operations of the company innear future.
Mr SK Roongta chairman of SAIL said "On an average, we recruit about500 to 600 trainees every year from institutes like IIMs and IITs. Thisyear we will be recruiting the same, about 500 to 600 graduates."
SAIL currently employs about 121,000 people. Though, SAIL plans torecruit fresher from premier institutes like IITs and IIMs, it alsoanticipates its workforce to shrink by about 6,000 to 7,000 in 2009-10on account of natural separation.
Meanwhile, SAIL on an average pays its employees an annual package ofINR 5 million. It is eying a saving of about INR 350 crore per yearthrough reduction in its employee strength.
