Applications are invited for admission to Full Time/Full Time Sponsored/Part Time Ph.D Programme in various disciplines along with vacancies and specialization area

Aeronautical Engineering: Specialization in Aeronautical Engineering (02) Full Time

Applied Science: Physics (01) Full Time, Chemistry (01) Full Time, Geology (01) Full Time

Civil Engineering (23): Structural Engineering, Highway Engineering, Irrigation and Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineering

Computer Science and Engineering: Specialization in Computer Science and Engineering (02)

Electrical Engineering (04): Power System, Power Electronics and Drives, Control Systems

E&EC Engineering (03): Specialization in E&EC Engineering

Mechanical Engineering (03): Design, Production

Metallurgy Engineering (02): Material and Metallurgical Engineering

Admission: Admission to the Ph.D Programmes is made on the basis of written test and Interview

Exemption from the written test will be given to those who have qualified NET (JRF) or GATE

The entrance test will be based on objective type questions based on specialization

30-50 numbers of questions will be asked in one hour

The qualifying marks for the exam will be 40%

There will not be negative markings

Admission to Ph.D Programme is also possible any time during the year through Dept/Centre Admission Committee with the approval of the Chairman Senate through Dean Academic Affairs for all categories of scholars although the course registration, where required, will be possible only at the beginning of next semester
Eligibility Criteria
Full Time Non-Sponsored Scholars

Minimum Eligibility: Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in Science/ Humanities/ Management or equivalent in a relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate for general category

The candidate must have a valid GATE score or must have been admitted to the M.Tech Programme with a valid GATE score

For admission to Ph.D Programmes in Science/Humanities/Management the candidates must have a NET (JRF) (UGC/CSIR) valid from the current year in relevant areas

Provided that the condition for GATE/NET (JRF) will not be applicable to Full Time Non-Sponsored without scholarship category of candidates
Full Time Sponsored Scholars

Minimum Eligibility: Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in Science/ Humanities or equivalent in relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate for general category

These candidates must have served with the sponsoring organization for a minimum period of 2 years on full time basis

The sponsoring organization needs to provide an undertaking
Part Time Scholars

Minimum Eligibility: Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in Science/ Humanities or equivalent in relevant discipline with 55% marks in aggregate for general category

These candidates must have continued to serve the present organization for a minimum period of 2 years

The candidate must provide a No Objection Certificate from the employer

Ph.D Course Work: After having been admitted, a Ph.D candidate shall be required to undertake course work for minimum period of one semester

For this purpose, the Ph.D scholar has to take at least a minimum number of two courses subject to the condition that a minimum of 6 total credits for the Ph.D Course Work will be mandatory

Further, one of the courses offered during the course work will be a course on Research Methodology, which may include quantitative methods and computer applications

It may also involve reviewing of published research in the relevant field

The other courses will be based on the recommendations of the supervisor

The minimum requirement to pass the Ph.D course work will be a CGPA of 6.5

The course work may span over more than one semester subject to the other conditions in these rules as applicable

Duration: The minimum duration of the Ph.D Programme will be 3 years from the date of admission

The maximum duration will be limited to 5 years from the date of registration

The Chairman Senate can grant extension beyond this period only after the candidate again presents a State-of-Art Seminar with current status of research work and this is approved through the same channel as it was done in the first instance provided that the supervisor of the candidate recommends the extension

Application Submission: Application for admission must be filled in the candidate's own hand writing and on the prescribed official form

It must be accompanied by the following documents, Date of birth certificate; SC/ST certificate (if applicable), Sponsorship/NOC certificate (wherever applicable), GATE score card (if applicable), Copies of Bachelor's and Masters Degrees, Migration certificate (for candidates not having their Master's degree from PEC University of Technology), Physical Handicap certificate (if applicable)

The candidates applying for more than one department should submit separate application for each discipline addressed to Director, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh-160012

The eligible candidates may report to the concerned Head or Department for written test and Interview on 05th-06th June, 2012, 09.00 a.m.

No separate letters will be issued for the same
