Hosur is a Town and a municipality in Krishnagiri district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a taluk of Krishnagiri district. It is located about 40 kilometres south-east of Bangalore. According to the 2001 census, its population is 84,310. Hosur is known for its manufacturing industries and its pleasant climate.

Before industrialization began in this part of the state of Tamil Nadu, Hosur was a village surrounded by forests. During 1980s industrialization began with the help of SIPCOT and Hosur gradually developed into a busy industrial town.
