Kanpur is one of the most populous cities in the north India and the most populous within the state of Uttar Pradesh. Area wise Kanpur is the 5th largest city of India . Kanpur is located on the banks of the river Ganga and is an important industrial centre. It has an area of over 1600 km� and had a population of 4.13 million in the 2001 census & now it is approx.6.0 million in 2008. Owing to the city's industrial importance, one of the Reserve Banks of India was established in the city.
